A span points to where a claim is grounded: {source_id, locator: {page, line_start, line_end, path, selector}, quote}. Quotes are at most 300 characters.

Rules beyond the schema

Alive also enforces rules JSON Schema cannot express. A document that breaks one is rejected with INTAKE_INVALID and the path of each problem:

• source ids are unique; every claim's source_ids refer to listed sources;
• any claim other than unknown cites at least one source;
• an observed claim cannot rest only on sources that were not processed;
• spans may only cite the claim's own sources;
• none cannot be combined with other test surfaces;
• supersedes_revision requires project_id and must be lower than revision.
