Staffed service queue
Represent limited staff capacity and the queueing delay it creates.
Boundary
FIFO queue, identical servers, fixed weekly shift, no breaks, no preemption, no prioritization, no abandonment.
Assumptions
- Service times are independent draws from one distribution.
- All staff share one shift pattern.
Limitations
- Does not model skill mix, interruptions, multitasking or overtime.
Known failure regimes
- Settings where triage priority or abandonment dominate waiting time.
- Very long service times relative to shift length (work continues past shift end).
