Scope

This policy describes how Alive Healthcare Technologies LLC ("Alive Healthtech," "Alive," "we," "us," or "our") approaches research use of information collected through Alive-powered products on behalf of customer organizations. It is not a privacy notice for the public website — see our Privacy Policy for that.

Alive does not operate an Institutional Review Board

Alive is a technology provider, not a research institution. We do not operate, host, or claim affiliation with an Institutional Review Board (IRB), and we do not represent that any current screening, intake, or outreach activity conducted through the Alive Platform has received IRB approval or is being conducted as human-subjects research.

What we mean by research use

A customer organization may choose to permit Alive to aggregate and de-identify information collected through its deployment, and to make that de-identified, aggregate information available to an academic or research institution under a separate written data agreement. This is intended to support activities such as understanding screening participation and outcomes at a population level — not to identify, contact, or re-identify any individual participant.

What "de-identified" means here

Before any information is disclosed for research use, direct identifiers (such as name and contact information) are removed and the information is aggregated so that it is not reasonably capable of being linked back to a specific person. Whether a particular disclosure meets any specific legal or regulatory de-identification standard is a determination made in connection with the specific data agreement and recipient, not a blanket guarantee made by this page.

Consent and organizational control

Research use of a customer organization's data is authorized by that organization, not by Alive unilaterally, and depends on the participant-level research consent obtained through that organization's intake process. A participant who does not agree to the research consent purpose is not included in any research disclosure. Any specific research partnership is documented separately and reviewed by the customer organization before data is shared.

Human-subjects research conducted by a receiving institution

If a receiving academic or research institution intends to use disclosed data in a way that constitutes human-subjects research under its own policies or applicable law, obtaining any required IRB review or exemption determination for that use is that institution's responsibility, not Alive's.
